Before I begin, I would like to clarify the sort of hero I think this item would complement. I have listed in my subtitle that this weapon is the newest addition to the ganker's arsenal, but I think I meant roamer's arsenal. I'm not too familiar with DotA jargon. Basically, it's meant for heros that move around the map and assist in ganks like gondar, vs, dark seer, NA, NS, etc.
+325 Sobi Mask
+325 Sobi Mask
+10 move speed
Active: Sonic Boom
This enchanted blade allows the user to swing it at Mach 1, creating a burst of sonic energy! Sonic Boom does 120 damage in a 550 range cone that knocks down trees. (75 mana cost, 35 second cooldown)
The exact numbers aren't too important; what is important is the active. The active would work like Krob's nuke. You would simply click a point on your screen, and Sonic Boom would release in a cone in that direction (exactly like Krob's nuke, but smaller) that would deal a small amount of damage and knock over trees. Also, as a quick note about the component items, I'd like to mention that it uses a sobi mask, which would allow a roaming hero to purchase a sobi mask at the beginning of the game and use it later. Anyway, here's why I want this item in DotA:
This would be an ideal item for heros that are built to roam the map and assist in ganks. (For example, Vengeful Spirit and Gondar.) How many times have you been ready to gank top lane, hiding behind those trees next to the first tower, only to flounder around the trees and creep, not scoring any hits on the enemy hero and never getting anywhere near him? Well with this item you wouldn't have to worry about that! You could simply blow a hole in those trees and CUT THAT BITCH OFF! This item is made to create paths through trees that weren't originally there.
2. Line of Sight Issues
Have you ever chased down some low health hero, almost killing him, only to have him juke you through the trees? Do you remember how silly you felt? Never again! The second your prey moves in those terrible fog of war shadows, blast the trees away and kill him! (On a side note it would be useful against heros like Zeus who use trees to their advantage to cast spells with slow cooldowns.)
3. Just Finish That Guy!
Remember, the Sonic Boom also deals a small amount of damage, so if someone's just barely escaping, you could potentially finish him off with the blast.
4. Counter Treant Eyes
Okay this is admittedly minor, but the Treant's Eyes in the Forest is simply an amazing spell, and it's even more amazing now that it's so difficult to find those pesky trees. A clever treant could even go the whole game without ever losing one! Not anymore. You would simply need a pretty good idea of where a tree is to knock it down and limit that bastards nearly endless vision!
In addition to those uses, it's just a nice, moderately priced item that grants stats a roaming hero could use: damage, stats, and move speed. I've also had it suggested to me (on multiple occasions) that I add quelling blade to the recipe. That makes sense as far as characteristics of the quelling blade go, but I'm not sure how I feel about making the quelling blade an upgradable item. Any opinions on this matter are more than welcome!
Thanks to everyone who's already posted (which helped me an idea of the kind of modifications my item needs) and my friend Sam for giving me ideas for stats that would be more beneficial for this item.
-changed damage from 20 to 23; agi from 10 to 12
-changed damage from 23 to 25; changed component from boots of elvenskin to robe of the magi and changed stat bonus from +12 agi to +10 int, after realizing that an agility bonus isn't very helpful on most heros
-changed damage from 25 to 20; changed component from robe of the magi to sobi mask, and changed stat bonus from +10 int to +1.0 mana/sec and +10 movespeed to better complement the heros I hope this could be used on
-reduced mana cost from 90 to 75
-added an additional sobi mask to the recipe and increased the recipe price from 500 to 800 to add another early game component to the item and make it more expensive
-increased mana regen from 1.0/sec to 1.6/sec, to reflect the fact that the item now requires two sobi masks; increased damage from 20 to 32 to make the recipe price a little more worthwhile
-included mention of quelling blade as a possible recipe component
