yes, we are aware of how the rankings are held.  thankyou.

the point is, we are pointing out the obvious flaw in claiming that you have created the "Dota World Rankings" and.....failed

+1

The best way to do this would simply be to take players from the best clans and maybe some other players with good knowledge and have them vote on players every 3rd month or so. And you can make it so you cant vote on clanmates.

The only challenge is this is to know which players gets to vote but there should be people that knows about this and players can be added/removed to the jury all time. The more voters with insight  the better.

Events that I decided to add already:
ASUS Spring 2008 (B tier)
DH Winter 2007 (C Tier)

Events that I will consider adding, but I need more information about:

--Asian WCG (C Tier)
--DH Summer 2007 (C Tier) - 1st. MYM 2nd T_T (disband? or reformed into new team ...need that lineup)
I haven't been able to find any other results posted or notable teams ... this may drop off

yeah T_T is SK.

And IIRC, the players that played then were Renji, Loda, Bogdan, Akke and Kwom.

Three things...
FIrst, it isn't fair to suddenly generate rankings without telling all the possible entrants that they are about to start being ranked.  That's why you don't just  reach just all events 3 years in past.  That would make plenty of data.

two: Instead of just telling the players who would be affected by this ranking, dust off was nice enough to release this announcement telling everyone else about their plans.  This system is good for the future of Dota, even if it isn't perfect right now.  Think about where this will leave the community in 2 years before you flame about now.

Three:  how do inactive teams lose points?

This system seems similar to the ATP ranking system, which I am a fan of.  Also, the ATP tournaments are structured similarily to DOta tournaments, which is why the dustoff system seems very nice to me.

i kinda agree witht he flamers...

okay so marcou stated that the rankings were on lan only and only contained one event

if i calmly told you that i was killing someone because i hated them... doesnt really change much in terms of perspective

wouldve probably had a better reception two months down... but i guess you're fixing that now

I would rather make Dreamhack B Tier and Fire & Ice C Tier. Since Dreamhack is the world biggest LAN event and there will be more guys from outside than in fire & ice tournament.

DH isn't the biggest DotA lan though.

The problem with the rankings as of now are the strong lack of consideration for the, like, years of LAN events: ASUS and Dreamhack come very much to mind. You should probably be going in and adding those events retroactively.

A couple other things: is there no strict point limit? So, the ranking is based on accumulation of point total? Does this mean that winning first in the ESWC finals might accrue less than winning three small regional LAN events? I think you should devise some maths that creates a ranking scale (like, 1 to 10 or something) for teams rather than strictly massing point. Say, by weighing point total of the team to the point total of the tournaments played (like a more simple win/loss ratio for other sports). Secondly, I think it needs a way to track points by individual team members, and not just the team itself (say, for like VP, where blowyourbrain + LOH are new players, and Admir and ARS-ART left, its the same team but different, and it should have a way to track the impact of the individual players).

Also, I think that some online tournaments should be weighted in, if at least with less weight than LAN competitions. This is because there are some pretty damn prestigious online events, that do have cash prizes, and do represent a pretty high standard of international competition. At the very least, MYM Pride and MYM PDL.

Just thoughts.

Not sure if I have ever seen a greater amount of ignorance in one place in a long time....  Yes, the list isn't complete.  Yes,  its not perfect.  I don't think anywheres does it say "The best most perfect excellent complete list of The World of Dota!".  As he said already it will be updated, take it for what you will till then.

It's not so much that it isn't perfect just the fact it's posted now.

Will there be a thread tomorrow titled "apex wins CAL season 1"?

No one cares for old news. Post when it's actually worth looking at (updated), and not when it isn't.
