Joanna Newsom does her thing on a harp and awesomeness ensues.

Discuss.

Make sure you set aside 2 hours for it some time!

She's toned down her pixie on helium sound from Ys a bit too, which is nice tongue.gif

Yeah, so this is pretty much the best album of 2010.

Listen to '81, Soft As Chalk, Autumn and On a Good Day. Actually, no just listen to all of it.

i've yet to listen to this album all the way through and pay attention.

today i listened to the first record/disc, and it's very pleasant.  i might just need to tackle this thing one step at a time because it's kind of overwhelming.

Took me a while to properly get into it too, but leave it on in the background and it grows on you. There's a lot of subtletly to the melody that you only really pick up on when you've listened to it a couple of times.

You won't like her the first, second, hell, the first ten times, I'm telling you.

Much easier to get into than Ys though, I still don't quite like that all too much, this on the other hand has less maniacal shrieking and way more varied instrumentation happy.png

Yeah, if you'd believe reviews, it's a mix of Björk, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor.

Milk Eyed Mender is her best album.

i loved her recent performance on jimmy fallon.  she makes the funniest faces, but she's adorable.

Definitely an acquired taste.  My friend introduced me to her like a year ago, and needless to say I was not crazy about it.  Hard to get into I would expect.

Her new album is way more accessible than her older ones, more varied as well. I didn't really like her that much until this one.

Give it a try, it's really rewarding if pick up on the subtlety in the dynamics. For example Autumn goes pretty much seamlessly between somberness, ebullience and back to mournfulness mostly just on voice inflection and sparse instrumentation.

I listened to the first two, they are a bit harder to get into than other pop music but still worth listening and pretty unique and good music. I was planning to check out this one as well but it is so big I don't have time for that.
